Senior Artist Cynthia Rivas

delivers a master-class in fusing Mexican tradition with modern makeup practices. Her style is bold, sexy and slick and draws on a range of experiences living across the West Coast of America. “I’m a first generation Latina from Mexican parents,” she explains, “born in Hollywood, California and currently living in Downtown Los Angeles.” Here she tells us more about her first experience of makeup and a lifelong love of winged, black eyeliner.

Hocus Pocus

“My first makeup-related memory was dressing up as a witch for Halloween as a young child and painting my entire face green and my lips ruby red. I did it all on my own! I’ll never forget my green-stained skin for the days that followed.”

Down in Mexico

“My favourite place in the world is Playa del Carmen in Mexico. If I’m traveling there, I’m taking Vegas Volt Lipstick, a gorgeous bright coral that you can use on both your lips and cheeks. It only gets better with a tan. I would also take Pro Longwear Concealer because I take it everywhere and of course, Zoom Waterfast Lash which doesn’t smudge in the sea!”

Eye Love You

“Having a great base is crucial, but my favourite feature to accentuate is the eye. For my everyday look I begin with Studio Moisture Cream then use Studio Moisture Tint SPF 15 with my hands, and Studio Finish SPF 35 Concealer if I need to cover up any imperfections. For evenings I finish off with Ruby Woo Lipstick and add a winged-liner using Blacktrack Fluidline and a pair of 36 Lash. The first M·A·C product I fell in love with was Boot Black Eye Liner. I’ve always been obsessed with a winged eyeliner because it makes me feel instantly sexy.”
