REGAN RABANAL

Grunge guy and counter-cultural firebrand Regan Rabanal grew up in Seattle listening to music and taking in art with his family. Since joining the M·A·C team as a Senior Artist, he’s been creating effortlessly chic, wearable looks for a host of high-profile clients. Working on editorials, fashion shoots and films, his philosophy is simple: wear what you like, stay true to yourself and let your personality do the talking. Here he tells us more about his journey from 90’s rebel to makeup artist extraordinaire.

Down and Dirty

“I’ve always been heavily influenced by 90’s grunge, so obviously a career highlight was the moment backstage security at Paris Fashion Week tied the admissions band on my wrist for the Vivenne Westwood Gold Label show! I’m into dark eyes and nude lips. Use Costa Riche Eye Kohl on the eyes for the creamiest chocolate tone that melts onto the skin and couple with Fresh Brew Lipstick, which creates the perfect neutral tone for everyone. For a more futuristic nude, use Ready or Not! Pro Longwear Lipglass, which gives an addictive plastic finish. If you don’t want to look like a zombie, then a good mascara is key. I like Haute & Naughty Lash as its spiky brush captures lashes you never knew you had, and 4 Lash, which is dark, intense and lets you go from simple to smouldering in seconds.”

Wake Up and Smell the Coffee

“If I could only keep one product for the rest of my life it would be Full Lash Curler, because in just a few pumps it makes the eyes look wide awake. It’s like a shot of espresso. Besides that, I couldn’t live without Prep + Prime CC Colour Correcting SPF 30, Matte Bronze Bronzing Powder and False Lashes Waterproof. These products are great, especially in summer. I’m going to Hawaii soon where I need to have a tan glow, my skin needs to be protected and my brows need to be dark and groomed.”

Slick and Smooth

“I like perfect skin, a razored hairstyle and sporty, sophisticated black clothes with a hip-hop vibe. Brush Cleanser is an absolute must, for healthy, clean brushes in a flash. If you have blemishes use M·A·C Studio Conceal and Correct. For my clients, I love makeup that makes them look sexy and feel confident, which means I always have to have my Teddy Eye Kohl and Feline Kohl Power Eye Pencil on hand. Satin Taupe Eye Shadow is a modern tone and texture for any occasion and should be applied with the 239 Eye Shader Brush, which sculpts, shades and blends on either the eyes, lips or skin. For me, the best makeup is the kind that enhances your natural beauty. So stick to a routine that works for you and change up the colours and textures every few months.”
